  • Operation: The caregiver manually pumps a lever or handle, which builds hydraulic pressure to move fluid into a cylinder and gradually raises the patient. A control valve is used to safely and gradually lower the patient.
  • Components: The main components include a wheeled base (often adjustable in width for maneuverability), a vertical mast, a boom arm that moves up and down, a spreader bar (or cradle) attached to the boom, and a sling that holds the patient.
  • Sling System: The patient is placed in a fabric sling (e.g., full-body or U-sling) which is then attached to hooks on the spreader bar.
  • Safety and Ergonomics: The primary purpose is to provide a safer environment for both the patient (by preventing falls) and the caregiver (by preventing back and musculoskeletal injuries from manual lifting).
